Lake Sammamish Home Project

Posted in Other Projects Reach-In Closets Walk-In Closets on August 8, 2011

Late last year we worked with a client on several custom solutions in their newly constructed Lake Sammamish home. We installed space solutions in a walk-in hall linen closet, an entry reach-in closet, three bedroom reach-in closets, the kitchen pantry, a mud area built-in, and the master walk-in closet.

The mud area in this home presented several challenges: We had to build around and hide pipes that came out of the wall and went into the floor; We also had to build around and hide foundation work at the base and for the full length of the built-in as well as vertical foundation work along the full height of the left cabinet. These challenges required us to carefully plan our design to enclose all of these structural items so one does not know they exist. They also emphasize our custom capabilities due to numerous “cut outs” that had to be made to multiple uprights and shelves. The built-in is Silver Frost melamine with an Oiled Soapstone Wilsonart laminate sitting area. Under the sitting area are four 24″ wide by 16″ deep wire baskets to store dirty shoes and above the sitting area are contemporary coat hooks. The client chose brushed nickel accessories and extra wide pulls for this solution.

For the kitchen pantry the goal was simply plenty of shelving. We built an upright shelving system for storage of baking sheets, cutting boards, and other similar kitchenware. Our clients wanted something that would give their children their own storage area for their foods while making it easy for them to see and access the food so several pull-out wire baskets were also installed. To make maximum use of the kitchen pantry space and to work around the door and door jam we had to make the shelves closest to the door shallower than the rest of the shelving. Our custom production capabilities allowed us to place the adjustable shelf holes deeper into the upright on the side with the shallower shelves and closer to the front of the upright on the other side for the deeper shelves. The solution uses white melamine and brushed nickel wire baskets.

The linen, coat, and bedroom closets are all white melamine also with wide brushed nickel pulls. The closets also feature brushed nickel round hang rods. The bedroom closets included drawers, two of which have custom uprights that are deeper on the bottom section than the top section so that the drawers could be deeper. Two of them were also designed for small children with shorter and lower hanging spaces but all three sections of the solutions are equal widths so that shelves and hanging spaces can be adjusted to accommodate the changing clothing as the children grow. The hall linen closet has one-piece adjustable corner shelves.

Our clients chose quartered caramel bamboo melamine for their master walk-in closet. As with the rest of the home, extra wide brushed nickel pulls and brushed nickel hang rods were used in this closet. In addition to plenty of hanging space and drawers we also installed four removable brushed stainless steel laundry baskets. There’s also plenty of shelving, both open and closed.

We also added dividers to some of the kitchen cabinets.
